Sports Tourism Advisory GrouP: Mission & Purpose
Structure – The ideal working group has two things: (1) a specific mission, and (2) a defined role towards that mission. Those items are best defined by the following:
Mission – Create a collaborative working team to capture new opportunities to drive more sports tourism to your community.
Role – To communicate in a common forum where opportunities may be, to vet created event ideas, and to support one another in growing their current event assets and also creating new ones (all that drive the sports tourism mission).
Meetings – 6x a year, or every other month for meetings. These are working meetings, choose times and locations that would get people to attend and plug in.
Caution – If the working group becomes a CVB activity report type meeting, you will have lost the team and nothing fruitful will ever happen. The working group needs to drive the conversation, you are trying to facilitate a place to have bigger picture discussions amongst the team members.
