Crystal ball

This week we will be conducting a mini “field trip” with our friends in Fox Cities, Wisconsin. Matt Ten Haken and I will be leading a story telling journey on how we envisioned what a new tourism focused facility could do for their community, and the journey Matt and his team took to get it to the finish line. Then we will tour the facility with the event attendees.

It’s surreal every time I walk through a venue that our little tribe at Huddle Up Group had a part in developing. Make no bones about it, Pam Seidl and Matt made the vision a reality. We are glad we were able to play a very small part in the larger picture.

This upcoming event got me to thinking about some “what ifs.”

What if the community leadership there didn’t get it? What if, their elected officials didn’t have the ability to look into their collective crystal ball to “see” what this venue could be? What if they didn’t offer their political will to the project? What if Pam and Matt and their board shut the idea down early on? What if…. Well, you get the picture. A million things could have derailed their project along the way.

Taking this a step further, in looking at all the left over notes from our latest book, Sports Smart: Volume II, we had a lot of “what if” types of items that didn’t make the cut. So for this week’s Monday Huddle Up, we offer you another list. A list of what ifs…..

  1. What if, leaders made decisions without worrying about who got the credit?

  2. What if, Scott Norwood made the game winning field goal in Super Bowl XXV? Do the Bills WIN four straight Super Bowls rather than losing each one of them?

  3. What if, we dusted off that business plan that has been on the shelf for years and actually launched it?

  4. What if, we let go of the anger we have towards someone and show them grace and forgiveness?

  5. What if, we grind less and celebrate more?

  6. What if, we could ditch that one bad habit?

  7. What if, one time a year, every American took a trash bag out in their community, filled it with garbage, and threw it in a dumpster?

  8. What if, we tried that sport we have been thinking about doing for years?

  9. What if, every person that was able, lost 10 pounds?

  10. What if, people could discuss an issue (even the challenging ones) without becoming combatants?

What if, each person reading this did just one thing on this list? (I know there are at least five on this list that I could lean into).

Look into your crystal ball and pick one of your “what ifs” to work on, or borrow one of ours.
