We launched book number three a few weeks ago. While I had a goal back in the day to craft one book, three was never in the cards (and we have content for probably two more, but I digress).
Last week while on a project in Texas, one of our long-time partners regurgitated some of the guiding principals that we usually impart to those we serve. It was quite humbling honestly to hear someone our team really respects in the industry default to some of our mantras.
The element this particular friend of the HUG program talked about is in the new book. At the same time, there were several items that didn’t make the cut. Those of you that follow us know a lot about our team’s DNA. One of our core beliefs is that you can only focus on three things, otherwise mission creep (and the affiliated inefficiencies) move in.
With the “Powers of Three” concept in mind, here are three of our favorite topics that made the book, along with three that didn’t.
Three that made the book……
Life’s “waves” (see Olympian Joe Jacobi’s very heart warming foreword).
Core value #6 on page 7 about giving yourself grace.
“Potholes” storytelling. Chapter 3, page 10.
Three that didn’t make the book…..
My interaction with Nick Faldo in a bar in Louisville where he spent 20 minutes telling us the story of his comeback in the 1996 Masters win over Greg Norman. Epic story.
No matter how bad you have it, there is always someone that will trade places with you.
If you listen to the industry you serve and give them what they want, businesses (and the relationships that drive them) will thrive.
For those of you that would like to revel in the 26 LONG pages of Sports Smart: Volume II, below is a link to pick up a free digital copy (those that have a physical copy in hand already, ditch those, as we made some edits recently).
We hope the new book brings some levity to whatever you are dealing with today. See Coach Valvano’s quote on page 23, which should cover it all.
Have a great week ahead my Super Scholars (see Chapter 5)!
